However if anyone would like a copy of the full operation order I would be glad to send it to them. <br /> <br /> I feel that we need to remember that not only are we to be fellow laborers (Philemon 1:24) with Christ and the church; we are to be fellow soldiers as well. "And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house" (Philemon 1:2). What is the point of waging good warfare 1 Timothy 1:18) and fighting the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12) if we do not have a battle plan to accomplish these commands. <br /> <br /> I am encouraging us to see ourselves as individuals who wage war not after or in the manner of the flesh (2 Corinthians 10:3). If you are in the area and would like to bring you kids by we are more that welcome to have them. It starts at 6:30 p.m. It is in the bulletin. <br /> <br /> Anyway, VBS is always a bitter sweet issue for me. On one hand you have the opportunity to teach kids about God. The are minds that need to be molded and taught to discern between good and evil. The other hand sees more entertainment than teaching in many VBS's. Is that how you pluralize that? Anyway, my inclination is that we spend so much time trying to make sure that the kids have a good time and want to come back next year that we might be clouding the message a bit. For some the thought of not being able to do VBS next year is so great that they are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that "fun" is stressed rather than "truth." Certainly, this is not always the case but it happens. Other people are so concerned with putting on a good VBS so that they will out do the denominations in town. But if the denominations are doing VBS's and we are doing a VBS; how can someone distinguish the two. In some cases the denomination is doing the exact same VBS that t<br /> he church of Christ is doing. How are we setting ourselves apart? <br /> <br /> I call attention to this solely on the fact that it is bothersome to me to see the lengths by which we go to justify a particular program within the church. I will say that I do not believe the VBS is inherently evil. Neither am I calling for a ban on all VBS. Rather I am simply asking that we take into account what our true purpose is and examine how and what we do in the church so that we glorify God rather than our own selfish need to compete or get kids back. <br /> <br /> As I stand ready to board the VBS train I pray that God will be glorified from specific effort rather than happenstance. My desire is that we make sure to glorify God rather than simply hope God is glorified in what we do. The difference is intent of action. What we intend to do versus what we hope might happen.
